Partnership in Action: Building Hope with Richard in Rushaga Village
Leadership Matters
Lasting change doesn’t happen from a distance—it happens through trusted relationships on the ground.
In Rushaga Village, Uganda, that change is being led by a man with a deep love for the Batwa people and a vision for something better.
His name is Richard Mwesigwa.
Through our partnership with Richard, Heart 2 Heart is able to support not just a project—but a growing, living mission rooted in the community itself.
““It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter””
Who Richard Is…
Richard is from Kabale, Uganda, and his journey into this mission began in an unexpected way.
While leading safari tours near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, he encountered the Batwa people—families living in extreme poverty after being displaced from their ancestral forest home.
What started as awareness quickly became something personal.
Richard didn’t just see a need—he stepped into it.
He began building relationships, sharing meals, helping with medical needs, and walking alongside the Batwa as a trusted friend. Over time, they became like family.
A Shared Mission
In 2025, through partnership with Heart 2 Heart and a small dedicated team, a vision began to take shape:
To create a place where Batwa and vulnerable children could receive education, care, and opportunity. What started with a single classroom has grown step by step, phase by phase, into something much greater.
Today, that vision is becoming a development center known as “Faith, Hope & Love.” It’s more than a school—it’s a foundation for transformation in the entire Rushaga community.
Building Sustainability
Richard’s vision goes beyond immediate needs.
He is actively creating sustainable opportunities that allow the mission to grow and support itself over time.
These include:
Jungle Java Coffee Shop
A locally inspired café that provides jobs, supports local farmers, and helps fund the school while creating a welcoming place for visitors.Jungle Tours
Guided experiences through Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania—offering cultural connection while generating income for the community.Bed and Breakfast
A place for mission teams and travelers to stay, experience the culture, and directly support the work happening in Rushaga.
These initiatives are not just projects—they are pathways toward independence and long-term stability.
Why Partnership Matters
This work is only possible because of strong local leadership. Richard understands the culture, the people, and the real needs of the community in a way that cannot be replicated from the outside.
The Bigger Picture
What is happening in Rushaga Village is not just about one program or one project. It’s about restoring dignity, creating opportunity, and building a future where children are no longer defined by poverty—but by possibility. From education to job creation, from daily care to long-term vision, this is what transformation looks like when people come together with purpose.
We are incredibly grateful for leaders like Richard—faithful, committed, and driven by a genuine love for the people he serves.
And we are thankful for those who choose to be part of this story. Because of this partnership, lives are changing.
This is only the beginning…
